πŸ‘‹ Hi, I am Marcel

I am a guy who is interested in tech, infrastructure and programming. I am a huge fan of free (libre) open-source software, Linux, and privacy. I am an avid listener of music and am interested in all kinds of off- and online (board)games.

🌱 Welcome to my Digital Garden

For years I have been trying to create a website and a blog. I have scrapped countless articles because they never seemed polished or finished enough to publish. A few days ago, I read an article by Maggie Appleton about the history of Digital Gardening.

To break it down in my understanding a Digital Garden is a kind of a mashup between a wiki, a blog and a homepage. Digital Gardens follow a few key principles:

  • Growth instead of finished things. Just like in a real garden you are not presented with the finished plant. You can see it grow over time.
  • Highly personal. Just like a real garden a digital one is a highly personal thing. It contains exactly what the owner of the garden want’s to put in it, not what engagement or algorithms reward.
  • Highly connected. Just like the roots of plants build fine connections, things in a Digital Garden are connected as well. (Kind of like a wiki. Oh and don’t get me started on the interconnection between mushrooms. That stuff is rad.)

So instead of continuing the churn of creating and scrapping stuff because it is not polished enough (at least in my perception), i will embrace the mud and start a Digital Garden. So I invite you to come by occasionally and have a look at what has grown.
